With a population of 15,000 residents, the township has made several “Best Of” lists when it comes to community amenities. Getting around Springfield is convenient thanks to the major roads that pass through the township, like I-78, U.S. Route 22, 24, and 124, among others.

Things to do in Springfield

Springfield, New Jersey, also referred to as Springfield Township, offers a lot of great events, festivals, activities, and things to do for residents and visitors. Here are just some of the things Springfield residents love to participate in.Springfield NJ Homes for Sale

Fabulous dining scene. Springfield offers a dense, urban landscape that's home to a wide range of residents but also several restaurants both in and around the town. Tierra Del Sol is one of our favorite Mexican places. With fabulous breakfasts, authentic Mexican plates, and a variety of nachos, you can't go wrong when you're craving some Mexican dishes.

Sophia's Italian Cuisine is a favorite Italian spot in town with delicious clams and mussels, homemade pasta, and delicious traditional Italian favorites such as veal piccata, chicken Marsala, and fabulous vegetarian side dishes.

Super Stuffed Burgers is the best place to satisfy your guilty pleasure. Their burgers are literally stuffed with cheese and with delicious French fries, milkshakes, and malts, you can satisfy that childhood craving for a traditional burger and fries at any time.

Hinari Sushi is the place to go for delicious sushi in Springfield, New Jersey. They do take out very well and even if you're not a sushi fan, they make pretty good bulgogi and teriyaki.

This just a small sampling of some of the best places to eat and dine in Springfield, New Jersey, but there are plenty of other reasons people love this area. The fantastic Springfield ballpark on US 22 is the area's premier indoor baseball facility. It offers a dozen batting cages that are open to the public, a variety of coaching and training facilities, five baseball batting cages, one softball cage, a pitching mound, and a computerized timer. There's even a weight room and food court so it's a great place to spend the weekend.

Nearby is the Mall at Short Hills in neighboring Millburn. This is one of the most upscale shopping malls in the state. It features a collection of high-end shops like Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., and Saks Fifth Avenue. There's a variety of other shops and boutiques surrounding the mall as well.

Ideal for history buffs. Like much of the surrounding area, Springfield played a major role in the Revolutionary war. The Battle of Springfield, which incurred on June 23, 1780, was about two decades before Springfield was incorporated as a town or township. There are a few revolutionary-era buildings and landmarks that still stand today and there are plenty of buildings on the National Register of Historic Places throughout Springfield such as the Cannon Ball House in the town's First Presbyterian Church.

Residents can commute easily between Springfield and New York City. Springfield is just about 25 miles southwest of New York City and there's a variety of transportation options to tackle the daily commute. There are many buses that go to and from New York City on the weekends and weekdays and the town runs jitney services mornings and evenings to Short Hills train station so residents can hop on to the Midtown Direct.homes for sale in Sprinfield NJ

Springfield Schools

Springfield has some amazing schools and they're part of their own Springfield school system. The town's own Jonathan Dayton high school ranks with seven other schools in Union County as one of the best high schools in the state. The public school system has a 14 to 1 student to teacher ratio which affords students more face-to-face contact with their educators. Springfield itself, dedicates 60% of its education expenses to instruction.

The Springfield public school system features five general schools with a total of about 2,300 students and 168 teachers. All the township's schools are named after notable Springfield residents such as Jonathan Dayton, a US Constitution signer, the Edward V Walton early childhood center, the Thelma L Sandmeier elementary school, and the Florence M Gaudineer middle school.

"Springfield schools have provided a strong academic background for my children, along with a safe place to learn and socialize. The clubs and programs available are excellent. As a Springfield schools alumni myself, I am proud to raise my children in this great town." - Niche.com
